Preparing for flight
-
Your dog should be clean and well-groomed before flying.
-
Prioritize exercise before the flight, as a tired dog makes a better traveler.
-
Abstain from feeding 4-6 hours before departure.
-
Bring a familiar item, such as an old blanket or article of clothing that smells like home, to provide comfort during the flight.
-
Pack one day's worth of dry food in case of an unexpected overnight stop, avoiding wet or raw food.
-
Be sure to administer any regular medication as prescribed by your veterinarian on the day of travel.
-
Carry extra bedding, wet wipes, and a sealable plastic bag to handle any accidents during the flight.
-
Consult with your veterinarian about an anti-anxiety medication to help relax your dog during the flight.
